Series consists of approximately 1,000 colour and black-and-white photographs, including slides, negatives, and 1 CD-ROM; and a framed Picasso print (65 cm H x 36 cm W) that hung in Petersen's apartment on Brenton Street, Halifax.

The photographs depict Petersen, his family members and friends, and landscapes and scenery of places where he lived, worked and traveled.

Photographs that were enclosed in letters or greeting cards are in Family Correspondence (series 6) and Friends Correspondence (series 7).

Ordening

The photographs have not been arranged. Most of the photographs are unlabelled and undated. They arrived in the Archives in clear plastic zip-loc bags, some bags labelled and others not. The photographs have been placed in·
acid-free envelopes labelled with name, place, and date, when that information could be determined.

Stored separately in cabinet:

  1. Black three-ring photograph album box containing colour and black and white photographs and colour slides; a list of people and places pictured is inside the album. Photographs of people include Petersen, Henry Petersen (Petersen's father); Archie Collins; Marjorie Collins; Alida Wicks (Collins); William Wicks; et al.

  2. Photographs of places include Ireland Place, Amityville, NY; Hobby Hill, Vermont; Kirkwood, Lake Ainslie; Isle Madame; University of King's College; Peggy's Cove (Nova Scotia). - 1952-1973. Collage of nine colour photographs of family members, including Petersen's mother in lower left comer photo. - c.1990-2010.

  3. Framed Picasso print of a boy that hung in Petersen's apartment on Brenton Street.

      Restrictions on access

      Pursuant to the wishes of the donor, Henry Drake Petersen, and at the direction of the executors of his estate, the records are closed until 30 years after the date of his death. The fonds will be open on October 18, 2042.
