Series consists of records relating to the academic aspects of the School of Journalism, including recruitment of new students.

Series contains records relating to the administration, activities, maintenance, and projects of the office of the School of Journalism. It documents the year-to-year institutional functioning of the school. Documents relate to staffing, financial matters and correspondence.

Sub-series contains documents and materials outlining the procedures through which students enter the School of Journalism. Records include registration forms for admittance to the School, workshops and classes. Unclaimed diplomas from the Bachelor of Journalism program are shelved separately ( oversized).

Series includes correspondence between Merkel and J. F. B. Livesay, Tully, and many others, and various documents relating to Merkel's personal and professional life.

Sub-series contains memos and design plans for a school of journalism that had a brief existence in the 1960s. It also contains correspondence regarding the collapse and dissolution of the school.

Series includes correspondence between Charles Bruce and Andrew Merkel, beginning with Bruce's freshman year at Mount Allison University when Merkel encouraged him to write poetry, and continuing through to the end of World War II, during which Bruce was a war correspondent. Also includes some of Bruce's early work with the Canadian Press.
